An old peasant house on a narrow plot in the historic centre of a wine-growing town in Burgenland, near Lake Neusiedl, will be converted into a home for young and creative couple from Vienna - a pianist and his wife.

The original house, composed of three gradually added parts, will be remodelled and integrated with the extension. The eldest part will become a wine room with well preserved wine cellar dating back to the 17th century exposed, while street-front part will become a creative studio for the lady of the house, accessible from the street.

Cantilevered upper floor of the extension inserted into a narrow courtyard defines the living space underneath it - kitchen and dining room facing the atrium to the west and spacious living room overlooking a garden to the south. The height of the living room opens up with the floor descending in steps towards the garden to accommodate a grand piano and improve acoustic properties of the space.
